Conflict Paintings on Conflict Painting (2011)
POLISHED METAL CONSTRUCTION WITH LACQUER PAINT AND 10 SMALL PAINTINGS
Stappaerts' glossy painted objects and cheerful colors seem to want to point the way to another world. Stappaerts does not mix his colors, but juxtaposes them and allows them to conflict. In his museum space, this idea is reinforced by the fact that the back walls were painted with the same conflicting colors. It is tempting to make a connection with the society that surrounds us. Even those who systematically avoid conflict sometimes dare to end up with a lot of grayness around them.
