MIXED TECHNIQUE
For his museum room, Bert Danckaert chose to abandon the medium of photography. With the help of John Van Oers, Danckaert recreated to scale a photograph of a wall he took in the Chinese city of Guangzhou. Danckaert plays a complex game with the boundaries of artistic media. What starts from the poetic gaze of the photographer who elevates a banal reality to art, culminates in a reconstruction to scale of an objet trouvé that, strictly speaking, has not been found, but meticulously recreated. A banal wall fragment from a Chinese metropolis thus acquires museum value.
