MUSEUM TO SCALE 1/7

Bert Danckaert

(Antwerp, 1965 )

Bert Danckaert photographs everyday situations and environments - mainly walls - from Havana to Beijing during his urban wanderings. Fragments of ordinary street facades are given a visual autonomy in his work. Danckaert's photography experiments with the field of tension between recognizable banality and abstract beauty. The subtle colors and abstract compositions evoke associations with the work of Raoul De Keyser and Mark Rothko, among others. Publisher Lannoo released Simple Present in 2008. The title suggests the honest simplicity with which the photographer captures the urban setting of the present, a Simple Present. In fact, the photographs in this series all bear the title Simple Present, followed by a number and the name of the city where the photograph was taken.
