MIXED TECHNIQUE
In Dirk Zoete’s oeuvre the emphasis is almost always on the surface. Untitled too looks flat and schematic. The lack of perspective and the playful artistic language recall the compositions of Paul Klee. The fact Zoete comes from a family of farmers is reflected by the materials he used to assemble this work. In this sense, it is also a melancholic nod to the decline of farming. The museum room itself is conceived as a stage in which, due to the interaction with the waves of the scenery, Zoete’s composition also evokes memories of the shape of a ship or an Old Testament ark.
