Dream the world awake/Sexclown (2013)
DRESSED TO SCALE MODELS
In his sometimes futuristic-looking designs, which constantly flirt with the avant-garde tradition in the visual arts, Walter Van Beirendonck tolerates little or no compromise. Of this cultural stratification, where aesthetics and statement take precedence over a weekday wearable fashion, Dream the World/Sexclown also attests . The designer does not use mannequins or models, but small dressed dolls that are more akin to a voodoo culture than to the everyday goings-on of the globalized fashion industry. The costumes of these dolls, incidentally, clearly hint at the influence of tribal art on Van Beirendonck's practice.
