Tout le monde Napoléon (2013)

VIDEO INSTALLATION WITH FIGURES TO SCALE

Napoleon Bonaparte is - after Jesus Christ - one of the most imaginative icons of Western culture. A paragon of eccentric power, Napoleon was even depicted on all manner of consumer products over the years: from ashtrays to beer bottles. In Tout le monde Napoléon, Theys stimulates that collective fantasy about Napoleon and depicts the leader's vanity by having six Napoleon dolls look at each other and at a video on the screen at the back of the museum room. The dolls pose as if they were figuring as an audience at the vernissage of their own exhibition.
