A Unique Art Collection (2011)
WOOD, GLASS AND LIGHTING
The empty display cases of this rescaled museum room are alienating. At the same time, they question how museum collections are displayed and how the placement of the display cases determines how the space is explored. The title is a humorous nod to the undoubtedly familiar but annoying museum sign indicating that some masterpieces were temporarily on loan for an exhibition abroad. Meuris seems to wonder if the respect that an archetypal museum room commands with its showcases remains even when the objects on display are no longer there.
