Instant Gratification (2013)
FUSED BRONZE SCULPTURE
Instant Gratification joins a series of similar works on a larger scale. When molten bronze is poured over a cold floor, the matter solidifies almost immediately due to thermal shock. The result is an organic lacework in bronze, which is then hung on the wall like a painting. As a result, the work's genesis is suddenly less unambiguous. Both the almost accidental sculptural form and the simple act from which it emerged raise the question of the extent to which the artist determines the status of an object, and what role coincidence plays. From a semantic point of view, there is the suggestion of deeper meanings, where it is not entirely clear whether they are evoked by the transformation of matter or precede it. The title relates the creative process to François' interest in the psychological processes that characterize contemporary society.
