Sixteen symmetrically hung paintings turn Etienne Van Doorslaer's museum room into a serene space. The various works show how, initially, the artist always uses charcoal to apply a simple geometric arrangement to his canvas. For this he draws inspiration from his immediate environment, where a floor, a radiator or the architecture of a room can all reveal a specific rhythm or pattern. The tessellation composed of horizontal, vertical or diagonal lines remains visible after Van Doorslaer has carefully raised the various fields with matter. The method of painting and the use of white paint - unmixed or broken with blue, red, ochre or green to subtle shades - create small shifts of light. These bring soft relief to light and emphasize perception or contemplation.
