SLIDE PROJECTOR WITH SLIDE PROJECTIONS

In 2014, it was exactly one hundred years since the First World War erupted in all its ferocity. In the run-up to that important historical anniversary, Braeckman published the book Schwarzschild and showed the installation Anonymous / Dirk Braeckman / / Schwarzschild at the S.M.A.K. in Ghent. In both the book and the exhibition, the artist presented the oeuvre of an anonymous photographer who captured the horror of war one hundred years ago from the front row. Braeckman, who had acquired the black-and-white clichés of the photographs back in the 1980s, made this homage from his perspective as a contemporary artist. In other words, the presentation of the photographs reflects the same pictorial approach that makes Braeckman almost paint with photographs.
