Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven
(Antwerp,
1951 )
The omnipresence of colour in the diverse and layered oeuvre of Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven almost always conceals socially critical, often feminist overtones. Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven connects technology, sex and image-making, combining her fascination for artificial intelligence and alchemy with erotically charged imagery. To reinforce her desire for a ‘counter-tradition’ she replaces the aestheticisation of the classical nude with strong, self-confident women, who are given a central role in her oeuvre. Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven created a frieze as an integrated artwork in Building S on Campus Drie Eiken. In 2022, the artist received an honorary doctorate for general merits from the University of Antwerp.
