Nadia Naveau studied at the Royal Academy and the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Her sculptures in plaster, ceramic, bronze, plasticine or polyester are eclectic and layered. Naveau is primarily guided by the clay and kneads matter by feel. Forms swirl and proliferate, merge and dialogue with each other. Associations, references and often humor are given free rein. Traditional motifs and techniques are mixed with contemporary ones. Classical antiquity and art history are as much an inexhaustible source of inspiration as travel, objects from everyday life and popular culture. Since the image is always a dynamic mixture and never unambiguously legible, it provokes both recognition and alienation. Naveau's “three-dimensional collages” are more than a playful yet intelligent questioning of form, color, material and format. Always in balance, moreover, they explore the autonomy of the sculpture and the associations it evokes. At Campus Middelheim, a work by Naveau was integrated into Building I.
