MUSEUM TO SCALE 1/7

Shortly after completing his studies at Ghent's Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Jan De Cock wins the prestigious Young Belgian Painting Prize in 2003. In 2005, the young artist receives an exhibition at the Tate Modern in London and in 2008 a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. For his sculptural installations, De Cock uses a variety of media. He integrates color and black-and-white photography, video and film into constructions that explore the boundaries of painting, sculpture and architecture. But above all, his works deliberately seek a dialogue with the history of abstract modernism of the past century. This is reflected, among other things, in the specific locations De Cock chooses for his installations: libraries, galleries, museums. The Groenenborger campus of the University of Antwerp houses a work by Jan De Cock in Building Z: a reflection on his exhibition at the Tate Modern.
