Honoré d'O has been the artistic alter ego of Raf Van Ommeslaege since 1984. In sculptures, assemblages, installations and video projections, he uses everyday materials and motifs to create a visual atmosphere in which perspectives constantly change, seemingly randomly and without concrete reason or conclusion. Although coincidence plays a significant role and nothing is straightforward, d'O activates new meaningful relationships in a deliberate, playful way - through repetitions, combinations of elements or details - each time. Perception and individual experience are crucial: the viewer must make choices and follow their own scenario. D'O wants to stimulate the way of looking at material reality and invite more profound reflections, without directing them. He waits for the moment when associations coincide and a broader perception of multifaceted reality makes the viewer receptive to invisible connections. In 2005 Honoré d'O represented Belgium at the 51st Venice Biennale, in 2006 he was laureate of the Flemish Cultural Prize for Visual Arts.
